Welcome to Colyar Consultants. I am a Technical Consultant in the field of refining technology, with an emphasis in heavy oil upgrading and conversion. In 2002, I became an independent consultant after 25 years industrial experience in R&D, process development and feasibility studies.
My expertise is in process modeling, process development & scale-up, modeling of pilot plant data, conceptual plant design, upgrading process evaluation, and technical / economic feasibility studies. I have developed numerous study reports investigating the many commercial or emerging upgrading technologies for both heavy oil producers and investment community clients. I can provide technical and economic conceptual evaluations to help identify the most appropriate technology for a specific application.
I have been involved in the development of many of the Heavy Oil and Bitumen Upgraders in Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada. I am conversant with all of the current commercial heavy oil upgrading processes and also with the new and developing partial and complete upgrading technologies being specifically developed for bitumen and heavy oil. I also have excellent knowledge of associated refining technologies including hydrotreating, hydrocracking, deasphalting, gasification, FBC and FCC.

Technical and economic studies investigating full or partial upgrading for a specific bitumen or heavy oil feedstock. Feasibility studies can evaluate options for bottoms (coke, asphaltenes, etc.) processing options and economic sensitivities. The study results are typically compared with DilBit or SynBit production.
